We recently received approval for a VAWA self-petition filed on behalf of a client who experienced emotional and physical abuse by their lawful permanent resident (LPR) father since childhood. This case is a reminder that VAWA protections are available not just for spouses, but also for children of abusive U.S. citizens and green card holders.

We helped our client file a VAWA self-petition without the knowledge or involvement of their parent. With our guidance, we submitted a detailed personal declaration outlining the history of abuse.

 

 

Following the VAWA approval, our client has received a work permit based on this approval. This allows them to live and work legally in the United States while we wait for the green card application to be processed. We expect green card approval in approximately 1 year.
