As the new year begins, there are concerns about changes to U.S. immigration policy. The incoming administration is expected to issue over 200 executive orders, many of which could affect travel and the visa application process. This may result in travel restrictions, delays, or changes to the entry process for nonimmigrant visa holders, including international students.

 

Based on past experiences, particularly during the first Trump administration, we anticipate that airports and other entry points may experience disruptions after January 20, 2025. Certain foreign nationals could face difficulties with reentry or may be denied entry. To avoid potential issues with your visa or reentry, we strongly recommend that all nonimmigrant visa holders—including F-1, J-1, M-1, H-1B, L-1, and their dependents—return to the U.S. before January 20th. We also encourage people who are traveling on advance parole to return to the U.S. before January 20th, if possible.
